Welcome to my site!

H! I’m Janet Lefley, a multi-faceted artist, wordsmith, and intrepid explorer.

I was born in Chicago and graduated with a MFA in Printmaking from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.

I am an author-illustrator. My first illustrated book, entitled Marcus Tuttle’s Field Guide to Imperiled Beasts, confirmed my love of writing and I am now writing a middle grade novel, The Temple Cat, about a girl in ancient Egypt who can take on the abilities of the god’s totem animals.

For the last few years I’ve lived in Amsterdam, which is great for me, because I adore biking and dog watching on the canals. (Oh, and Dutch apple tart with whipped cream)

I’ve travelled all over, always with my trusty sketchbook in tow, which deepens my connection to a place.

I’ve taught art at all levels, from toddlers to university students.

I also create portraits of people’s pets, which is a great way to indulge my passion for both animals and art.
